Sustainable Package Design

Sustainable Package Design

We’ve made some big changes to our packaging suppliers, materials and production methods in the past few years, and we’re continuing our mission for sustainable packaging into the future, to avoid single use wrap and plastic as much as we possibly can.

Biodegradable Mailing Bags

Our own brand biodegradable bags are designed in house, allowing us to have full control over which materials, production methods and suppliers are used. These bags are created from LDPE with D2W.

LDPE is a low-density polyethylene, a thermoplastic made from the monomer ethylene. D2W is an additive that, when added to petroleum-based plastic, renders them degradable. D2W degradable plastic can still be reused and recycled, but will also degrade and disappear completely in a short timeframe, leaving no harmful residues behind.

We welcome our customers to recycle the bags or reuse them for posting,  bury in their garden for natural decomposition or fill with soil and use as a grow bag.

Mail Order Box Design

Our cardboard Mail Order Boxes are also designed in-house, created from double wall cardboard.

The introduction of our Mail Order Boxes allowed our packaging to become a multi-functional piece of design. The illustrated boxes function as a protective barrier for the contents, a practical storage solution and as gift packaging. A wreath box is the perfect example to use as it provides a safe, compact place to store the wreath when it is not on display and acts as gift wrap if a wreath is ordered from our website as a present, sent directly to the recipient.

Both uses remove the need of additional materials, potentially avoiding the purchase and use of plastic products.

Eliminating Plastics

All of our orders are sent in double wall cardboard boxes that can be recycled by our customers. To avoid plastic wherever possible, we use recyclable paper inside to secure and protect our products.

For large glassware items it is sometimes necessary to use bubble-wrap to avoid damages and wastage, however during our peak season in 2021 we were able to reduce our use by 70%. This has been achieved by using more sustainable materials wherever else possible.

We recycle all of our paper and cardboard accumulated on site in our office and warehouse.
